CRAFTSMAN’S MESSAGE

I’ve been making free standing furniture, built-ins, and wooden kitchens since 1991. The majority of my work has been private commissions for individuals, families, and local organizations, but I have also done production and design work for a local furniture retailer. I’ve worked with most domestic hardwoods, many exotic imports, and of course White Pine. I’ve had experience with a wide variety of finishes ranging from sprayed lacquers and custom mixed stains, to urethanes and rubbed oil and wax finishes. I always use the best materials available and build for beauty and longevity.

I actually do believe that if something is worth doing it’s worth doing right—at least where the woodshop is concerned. It takes a hardwood tree in North America one hundred plus years to mature; the furniture we make out of it should be made to last at least that long. I’ve raised three sons on the first set of chairs I made and not one joint has come loose in fifteen years of hard use. The trick to making furniture that is beautiful and lasts is simply a willingness to put the time in to do it properly, according to proven design principles. Of course it is so much easier to put the time in when you love what you are doing.

Wood is such a beautiful material in and of itself. With just a little effort from us that beauty can be exposed to the world for generations to come.
